INTRODUCING THE BLUE LABEL GHOST AND RARE SERIES

Johnnie Walker is proud to present a series of three limited edition whiskies: Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare, a series of special edition whiskies crafted using irreplaceable whiskies from "ghost" distilleries that have long-since closed, alongside other rare whiskies from across the four corners of Scotland.

Each special edition whisky explores one remarkably rare whisky from a long-closed ‘ghost’ distillery that lends something remarkable to Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

The first in the series was Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora, released in 2017, followed by Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen in 2018, with the whisky series completed by Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal in 2019. Find out more about each limited edition whisky below.

JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL GHOST AND RARE BRORA EDITION

At the heart of the first edition of this whisky collection is precious whisky from the famed Highland distillery of Brora which closed its doors in 1983.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora is a rich, velvety smooth blend of eight treasured Scotch whiskies including three "ghost" whiskies from the closed distilleries of Cambus, Pittyvaich and of course Brora, which brings a deliciously light peatiness and sophisticated subtle sweetness.

Also included are five rare expressions from the working distilleries of Royal Lochnagar, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge.

The result is Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora: a wonderfully smooth Scotch, with the fruity sweetness of pineapple, rich notes of hazelnut and dark chocolate and a subtle smoky finish.

JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL GHOST AND RARE PORT ELLEN EDITION

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen is the second addition to the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare collection. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen has been carefully crafted by Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his small team of passionate whisky makers using eight handpicked whiskies from the four corners of Scotland, including three irreplaceable ‘ghost’ whiskies and five incredibly expressions from the Johnnie Walker reserves.

The character of this truly special Scotch lies in the highly sought-after whisky from the famed Island distillery of Port Ellen which closed its doors in 1983.

The ghost whiskies from Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness whilst rare malt expressions from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours - all perfectly balanced by the maritime smokiness of Port Ellen that lingers in the long and warming finish of this exceptional whisky.

JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL GHOST AND RARE GLENURY ROYAL EDITION

At the heart of this whisky lies the exceptional Highland single malt, Glenury Royal, from the ‘ghost’ distillery of the same name that shut its doors in 1985, whose colourful history is as exceptional as its uniquely rich and fruity whiskies.

Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his team hand-selected two exceptionally rare whiskies from the ‘ghost’ distilleries of Cambus and Pittyvaich perfectly balancing their creamy toffee and butterscotch notes with the sumptuous orchard fruits, sweet apple and delicate apricot notes of Glenury Royal.

Five other rare whiskies from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie bring waves of vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits that weave through smooth dark chocolate and nutty layers to create a perfectly balanced exploration of the inimitable Glenury Royal - making this limited edition our most indulgent yet.

“Shining a light on this hidden treasure of the whisky world is something we’ve wanted to do for some time. This indulgent new limited edition provides us with a wonderful opportunity to explore the remarkable layers of rich fruit found in every drop of Johnnie Walker Blue Label,” says Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge.

The Glenury Royal distillery was founded in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay - a Member of the British Parliament and the first man to walk one thousand miles in one thousand hours - only a few weeks after opening the distillery was destroyed by a devastating fire only to rise like a phoenix from the flames to thrive once again. Under Barclay’s tenacious leadership, it flourished to become one of only three Scottish distilleries to enjoy a Royal title. Today the rare spirit of Captain Barclay lives on in the dwindling stocks of this incredible ‘ghost’ whisky.
