Our Journey

Johnnie Walker Our Journey

Beyond the Sum of Its Parts
It was John Walker who saw the incredible potential of a blended Scotch whisky. A master blender of teas, he dedicated himself to the exacting combination of select whiskies. The results were extraordinary: his blends showed consistently high quality, drop after drop; but the complexity of their flavor also proved unmatched by individual single malts. By combining whiskies from the vast regions of Scotland, an unforeseen depth of flavor revealed itself possible.
Equal parts art and science, it was an approach that would change indelibly the world's appreciation of whisky. The craft would go on to be perfected by John Walker's son, Alexander, and honed by our master blenders for generations to come.
The Legacy
To this day, we select the finest whiskies across Scotland, from the elegant single malts of the Highlands to the smokiest whiskies of Islay. Ours is the largest collection of whiskies in the world, an asset that allows our Master Blenders to push the boundaries of their craft with their every new creation.

We Sailed Wherever Ships Could Sail

The 1860s are drawing to a close and the British Empire is booming. In a brilliant stroke of entrepreneurship, the Walkers cut a deal with ship captains: for a share of the profits, they would transport the iconic square bottle onboard their vessels bound for the far ports of the Empire.

Through this ingenious distribution channel, our whiskies were introduced to discerning customers across the four corners of the globe. Johnnie Walker had soon won awards from Sydney to Paris, staking its claim among the world's first truly global brands.

With international acclaim came unprecedented demand; but with every step forward, Alexander Walker declined the opportunity to compromise on quality, declaring in 1887, "we are determined to make our whisky of such a standard that nothing in the market shall come before it." The same mission has guided our expansion ever since. Today, Johnnie Walker Red Label is the world's number one Scotch whisky.

Since 1820, our vision has been defined not by what whisky has been, but what whisky could be; understanding our storied legacy not as a guide, but as inspiration for what innovations the future may hold in store. With our every move, it is the unlimited potential of the next step that drives us forth.

By Appointment to her Majesty the Queen
It has been our privilege to serve the Royal Household since receiving the Royal Warrant in 1934 from King George V.
In honor of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, we crafted a commemorative blend the likes of which had never been attempted before. A limited release of 60 Baccarat® crystal decanters were filled with a blend of rare whiskies matured since the Queen's ascension to the throne in 1952.
The Next Step Forward
We have never been content to stand still, and the introduction of Johnnie Walker Platinum Label proves no exception. Inspired by private blends the Walker family would craft for preferred customers, it is a truly luxurious blend, and a bold step forth in the tradition of those that have come before it.
